Create a muted vintage colour photo

I was doing some experiment and finally getting this muted vintage colour tone and I like it. Hope to share this with everyone and hope every can grab this opportunity to learn and practice.

Here is the steps:

  1. Let’s open a photo in Adobe Photoshop.
  2. Click on Create new fill or adjustment layer, select Gradient Map.
  3. Select Red, Green for the Gradient Map.
  4. Under layer palette and set the blending mode from Normal to Overlay. Set opacity to 30%. (You may adjust them between 20% to 30%).
  5. Click on Create new fill or adjustment layer, select Hue/Saturation.
  6. Reduce the Saturation to -30.
  7. Click on Create new fill or adjustment layer, select Color Balance.
  8. Set the Midtones as Cyan-Red to -5, Magenta-Green to -5, Yellow-Blue to +5.
  9. Click on Create new fill or adjustment layer, select Solid Color.
  10. Under the Pick a solid color window, set the colour to #FF8CCF and click OK.
  11. Under layer palette and set the blending mode from Normal to Luminosity with with opacity of 20%. (You can adjust them between 20% to 30%.).
  12. Click on Create new fill or adjustment layer, select Solid Color.
  13. Under the Pick a solid color window, set the colour to #FFFF00 and click OK.
  14. Under layer palette and set the blending mode from Normal to Luminosity with with opacity of 10%. (You can adjust them between 10% to 15%.)
  15. Click on Create new fill or adjustment layer, select Solid Color.
  16. Under the Pick a solid color window, set the colour to #A100FF and click OK.
  17. Under layer palette and set the blending mode from Normal to Luminosity with with opacity of 10%. (You can adjust them between 10% to 15%.).
  18. Final result of the photo (right) and original photo (left).
